Going through the list of birds for Queensland I realized I never posted the Blue-winged Kookaburra. How could I miss that? Well, here it is. And the number of birds I photographed and ID-ed  was added with one. Not done yet. I still have a few to check out before I can say I´m finished.

Spangled Drongo and  Forest Kingfisher

Spangled Drongo - Dicrurus bracteatus - Glitterdrongo

This species is the only Drongo in Australia. It ´s recognized by it´s black iridescent plumage, the forked tail  and red eyes.

It was weird somehow to see this kind of birds in a very dry landscape. The water visible here was hardly enough for them.

"The red goshawk (Erythrotriorchis radiatus) is probably the rarest Australian bird of prey. It is found mainly in the savanna woodlands of northern Australia, particularly near watercourses. It takes a broad range of live prey, mostly birds."

A bird we would never have seen if we did not have our birdguide to guide us. It was tricky to shot as the easiest angle only shoved the birds behind. ☺

This little guy actually lived at the Lodge. And was very curious about the visitors. When I was on my way back to my own cabin I noticed it standing on the path. Trying to take shots was devastating until somebody noticed and came with a flashlight. Saving the day. Or, night?.  Got a few shots before it took off.

This is a very fascinating bird. Walking on the leafs with it´s large feet. Sometimes hardly seen out among the Water Lily flowers. Coming up close it is very beautiful. I created some art wrk from the top image. You find it HERE

 They really have some pretty ducks in Queensland. And swimming among beautiful water lilies did the view even better. It was a joy to watch.

A wonderful bird I have also seen in Costa Rica. Think it was the same one. Such a long neck. :) Here it was just outside my lodge in a temporary water pool that depended on yearly watersupplies. It dried out half of the year.
